Bangladesh has sought technological support from Germany for industrial growth as it aims to become a developed country by 2041.

“We want German technology to help our industries,” Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said at the Iftar of the Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce and Industry or BGCCI on Wednesday.

“Germany has a reputation for inventing cutting-edge world class technology used worldwide. We want their technologies to enrich our industries and our lives,” he said.

“Germany has been our friend since independence. West Germany was the first country to recognise us among all the European countries. They have helped our economy by building a strong bond with trade and investment. We are grateful and thankful to them.”

Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was also present at the Iftar which was hosted for what the BGCCI President Omar Sadat said “honouring its members and to express its solidarity as a bilateral chamber”.

The industries minster thanked BGCCI for taking the initiative and all its members for their support to the current government to make Bangladesh’s economy stronger every day.

The BGCCI is the biggest bilateral chamber started officially in June 2003 with only 43 members.

Now it represents more than 450 companies from Bangladesh and Germany.

The two-way trade is more than $5 billion with Bangladesh’s exports making up most of it.
