REVIEW --- DTG 2008

The 5th Dhaka Int’l Textile and Garment
Machinery Exhibition (DTG2008) was held from January
21st to 24th at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference
Centre. It is the largest gatherings for the textiles
and garments manufacturers in Bangladesh. The immense
event was jointly organized by Bangladesh Textile Mills
Association (BTMA), ES Event Management SDN BHD, Malaysia
and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Co., Ltd., Hong
Kong. Honorable Advisor of Textiles and Jute Ministry
Mr. Md. Anwarul Iqbal was invited to inaugurate the
exhibition as the chief guest.
Textile and clothing industry, accounting
for 78% of the total export earnings of Bangladesh,
plays the most dominant and expanding role in the Bangladesh
economy. World-wide textile and RMG players are increasingly
taking interest in Bangladesh in their investment planning,
which shows a clear sign of tremendous potential of
the country’s clothing industry due to big domestic
and overseas market. The 5th Dhaka Int’l Textile and
Garment Machinery Exhibition offered an ideal platform
to demonstrate new products and technologies, as well
as meet with manufacturers, traders and buyers, and
exploit business opportunities.
This year, there were about 730 booths
being filled up with world’s leading brands from Austria,
Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Czech, Denmark,
France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy,
Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherland, Singapore, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, U.K and
U.S.A. The categories of exhibits included spinning,
weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing, sewing,
iron & hanger system, CAD/CAM, testing and other
related machinery, equipments and spare parts.
Most of the participants were quite
satisfied with the performance and fruitful outcome
of the exposition. The venue was crowded with business
visitors who came to place orders, make inquiries and
learn about the latest industrial technologies. More
than thousand machines were sold during the 4-day event,
and the exhibitors received spot orders worth US$150
million and are likely to receive more as a result of
the exhibition.
The exhibition not only provided the
opportunity for an excellent gathering of the international
suppliers and buyers to expand business to the more
lucrative markets, but also brought in foreign investment
and provide driving force to production and economic
growth of Bangladesh. No doubt the successful event
has become a “must go” for related textile and garment
industries in South Asia every year.
DTG2009 is planned to be held in February
8~11, 2009. The organizers have received a lot of space
reservation demand during DTG2008, and they are all
confident that DTG2009 will be successful and thriving
as it was in previous years. << www.bangla-expo.com
